Isidingo - The Need
If it is depth you’re looking for in a television soapy, then look no further. Travel down the pathways and dusty roads that lead to the people at the Horizon Deep gold mine. Often compared with a previous local television series called “Villagers”, Isidingo tells the story of how people in a small mining town interact and try to live and let live. Peppered with a heavy dose of local flavour, producers have hacked away at society’s barriers to expose a layer of poignant issues like race relations and economic survival as well as various social and economic conditions. Love, deceit, revenge, joy and disaster – its all to be found at Horizon Deep. See exactly what’s going down in Isidingo at Monday to Thursday at 6.30 pm on SABC 3.

Bold and the Beautiful
CBS’ long-time favourite among soapie fans - “The Bold and the Beautiful” - explores the glitzy, bitchy world of designer fashion; a world dominated by the Forrester family. Meet Ridge (Ronn Moss), the flamboyant, wealthy son of Eric (John McCook) and Stephanie Forrester (Susan Flannery). His long-time sweetheart, Brook (Katherine Kelly Lang), is always close by. She is determined not to be outdone by Dr Taylor Hayes Forrester (Hunter Tylo), who is also competing for Ridge’s attention. Don’t forget the show’s other characters whose lives are inextricably intertwined. Discover who’s bold and who’s beautiful in Beverly Hills. Although the characters’ names may sound like something out of a nature presentation, the show is bound to have you hooked in no time. Catch the show on SABC1 on weekdays at 6pm.

Generations
This is another South African-made drama. Set against the backdrop of the advertising industry, it covers the ongoing feud between two wealthy families who have been rivals for generations. The colourful plot is shot through with tragedies revolving around suicide, murder, rape and adultery. It is very representative of the kind of society we live in today, focussing on the dreams and aspirations of people within the ‘rainbow nation’. The show first piloted in 1993 and was aired in a once-a-week timeslot. Five years later, it began running four nights a week.
Narrow your generation gap by watching SABC 1 at 8pm from Tuesday to Friday every week.

Sunset Beach
Sunset Beach, as its name implies, tells of the airy unrealistic world of the complicated lives of a small Southern California coastal community. There are a lot of secrets hovering around the area and whispers are a matter of course, but secrets evidently do not have a long life span in this small, village-like environment. South Africans are experiencing the last remaining episodes of this programme because word has it that Sunset Beach was cancelled recently because of low ratings. Viewers will have to make the most of the current battles between the “Cummings”, “Torres” and “Jensen” families. Don’t let the sun go down on your weekday without a Sunset Beach experience – catch the show on weekdays on SABC 3 at 4pm. |

Days of Our Lives
Join the “Hortons”, “Blakes”, “Bradys” and other families of Salem, along with their friends and neighbours, and experience the romance, adventure, tragedy and triumph depicted in this series’ story line. The show was created by Irna Phillips, Ted Corday and Allen Chase and was first broadcast in November 1965. Only two of the original cast members are still to be seen on screen today. The opening lines of the programme are “Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives” – and really, if one thinks about it, this is a relatively strong case to watch the show. This show is screened on SABC1 on weekdays at 5.10pm.
