Saxon
Nestled in the exclusive Sandhurst suburb of Sandton, Saxon makes a world class statement of ethnic African elegance, combined with personalised attention to detail. Saxon has always been a place of welcome. First as a home, now a home away from home. With its roots in the heart of Gauteng, it has drawn the warmth of the city that bred it - from the world it has won it's refinement and ease. Saxon has witnessed history within its walls as it became home to Nelson Mandela after he was released from prison. It was during this time that South Africa's former President used the serene setting of Saxon to edit his autobiography "Long Walk To Freedom". The welcoming entrance with stately staircase steeps around a central glass dome, permitting natural light to blend with and enhance the contemporary African décor and handcrafted ethnic artefacts. Leading off this area is a boutique shop, piano lounge, smoking library and the dining room. Set in six acres of lush landscaped gardens, Saxon has been designed to capture and embrace its natural environment. One of the design themes is the extensive use of water. The central point of the water theme is the magnificent nine hundred and twenty square metre swimming pool. |

Seating - 115 pax. Bombay Blues has a designated smoking area, outside seating and the latest addition is the +-50 seater private dining room. Genuine Indian cuisine is prepared just as it was in the times of the Nawabs (regional chieftains) of North India, where the "Dum Pukht" style of cooking originated with the natural aromas of meat and vegetables blended with spice and herbs. This resulted in a true gourmet adventure. A divine experience. |

Browns of Rivonia
In 1974 owner Gerrie Knoetze received a couple of bottles of wine for his birthday and the wine-collecting bug hit hard. Today Browns has one of the most comprehensive cellars in South Africa. After going to university in Pretoria, Gerrie started Eagles for Steaks in Welkom (with a small cellar) in the Free State in 1980. On moving to Johannesburg in 1985, he started the Roxy Rhythm Bar in Melville (the Roxy also had a fine wine collection). 1990 saw the acquisition of Reds Jazz Bar and Restaurant in Bryanston (also with a wine cellar) and finally Browns of Rivonia.
